PEORIA – Less anyone doubt Senator Darin LaHood’s conservative credentials, the Republican candidate for the 18th Congressional seat, released a list of conservatives around the state that back him in the upcoming special election to fill former Congressman Aaron Schock’s vacated seat.
“I am honored and humbled to have the support of such strong conservative leaders in Illinois,” said LaHood. “It speaks to the desire conservatives have for term limits, less debt, much needed ethics reforms, and a pro-life and pro-family advocate in Washington.”
Questions have swirled about LaHood’s commitment to conservative values because his father, former Congressman Ray LaHood (IL-18) not only served President Barack Obama’s Administration as Secretary of Transportation, he has verbally scorned social conservatives over the years.
In contrast, the younger LaHood has a solid voting record in the state legislature that lines up with the Illinois Republican Party’s conservative platform.
Penny Pullen, former Illinois State Representative and President of Eagle Forum of Illinois said she was “pleased” to endorse Darin LaHood for Congress.
“His record in the Illinois Senate shows strong commitment to pro-life and pro-family policies and to conservative solutions for America. I firmly expect Darin will stay true to his principles as a member of Congress and will make us proud of our support for him.”
Fellow State Senator Kyle McCarter (R-54) agreed with Pullen’s assessment.
Those Illinois conservatives that endorse LaHood for Congress include:
Joe Walsh, former Congressman (IL-8)
Rev. Bob Vanden Bosch, Concerned Christians of America
Paul Caprio, Director, Family PAC
Denise Cattoni, Founder, Illinois Tea Party
State Senator Sam McCann (R-50)
State Senator Kyle McCarter (R-54)
State Representative Tom Morrison (R-54)
State Senator Jim Oberweis (R-25)
Dan Proft, conservative radio talk show host
Penny Pullen, former Illinois State Representative & President, Eagle Forum of Illinois
Ralph Rivera, Chairman, Illinois Citizens for Life Federal PAC
Bobby Schilling, former Congressman (IL-17)
Paul Schimpf, former Illinois Attorney General candidate
David Smith, Executive Director, Illinois Family Institute
